2024 Manitoba Soil Science Society Annual General Meeting
Soil Science Education and Extension
February 1 & 2, 2024
Holiday Inn Winnipeg-South
The theme of the 2024 annual conference of the Manitoba Soil Science Society is Soil Science Education and Extension.
“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught” (Baba Dioum, 1968). Soil science education and extension activities are key in increasing awareness of about the importance of soils in our everyday lives. From ecosystem services, to food on the table, to the lumber in our homes, soils are a critical, but often under appreciated, resource. Teaching and learning happens at all stages from K-12 through to post secondary, and from first-time farmer to seasoned professional, it happens in the classroom, on the farm and over a cup of coffee. The ways in which we disseminate and find information and connect with others are changing (e.g., social media) and the information being sought after is evolving to address an increasing variety of knowledge needs. Please join us as we explore the many different facets of education and extension in soil science.
