Becoming a Member of the CSSS

The Canadian Society of Soil Science must be a strong active organization if it is to provide leadership to meet the soil management challenges of the future. Doing so will require a range of expertise and ingenuity. If you share the ideal of “Promoting the wise use of Canada’s soil resources” you are encouraged to become a member of the CSSS.

Benefits of CSSS membership
As a member of the Canadian Society of Soil Science you receive many benefits, including:

CSSS Student members receive the same benefits as regular members, but also receive a reduced membership fee, can apply for travel assistance to attend the CSSS Annual Meeting and international soil science meetings, and can compete for the C.F. Bentley Award for best student oral presentation and President’s Award for best student poster presentation at the CSSS Annual Meeting. For more information about student membership click here.

Who should become a member
Membership in the CSSS is open to individuals

  • engaged in any aspect of professional soil science, e.g., agriculture, forestry, geography, land-use planning, geology, remote sensing, engineering, or environmental science
  • with a post-secondary school degree or diploma in soil science or a related scientific subject
  • engaged in full-time study of soil science or a related scientific subject

  • Regular – $115
  • Student Canadian and Foreign – $10
  • Student Membership Bundle (CSSS, CSA & CSHS) – $40
  • Early Career Scientist (maximum  5 yrs from terminal degree) – $70
  • CSSS Fellow – $115
  • Emeritus (Retired) – $55
  • Fellow Emeritus – $0
