Dr. Dani Degenhardt is a Research Scientist with Natural Resources Canada’s Canadian Forest Service at the Northern Forestry Centre in Edmonton, where she leads the Ecosystem Restoration Lab. She holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Alberta, and an MSc and PhD in Soil Science from the University of Saskatchewan. Following a post-doctoral appointment with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Lethbridge, she spent seven years at InnoTech Alberta conducting applied reclamation research for the oil sands, coal mining, and upstream oil and gas sectors. Her current research spans oil sands tailings reclamation and mine closure, mine water remediation using constructed wetlands, boreal forest restoration, wildfire behaviour modelling and landscape resilience, and the application of remote sensing and artificial intelligence to ecosystem monitoring. She is excited to help the CSSS share information with its members and the broader public.
