2026 CSSS Fellow Award to Dr. Angela Bedard-Haugh (USask)
Dr. Angela Bedard-Haughn is the Dean of the College of Agriculture and Bioresources and a Professor of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan (USask). She was born and raised on a mixed farm in the central parkland region of Saskatchewan, received her BSc and MSc from USask, and completed her PhD at University of California at Davis before returning to USask. She served as a Professor, Graduate Chair, Department Head and Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies), before becoming Dean in 2020. Angela’s research focuses on mainly wetland soils and predictive soil mapping, largely supported by NSERC, the Saskatchewan Agriculture Development Research Fund, Environment Canada and several industry groups. She remains active in training, mentoring graduate students and teaching field courses on soil and landscape classification, at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Angela has been a member of CSSS since 2001. She has been involved in the organization of two CSSS conferences, as a member of the organizing committee (2010), conference co-chair (2019) and field trip leader (2010, 2019). She has also served as CSSS President, CJSS Associate Editor, and inaugural secretary of the Pedology Committee, which she currently co-chairs. She is currently President-Elect of the national Deans Council of Agriculture, Food, and Veterinary Medicine, Chair of the Meewasin Valley Authority Board, Chair of the Saskatchewan 4-H Foundation, and Director with the Agriculture in the Classroom Canada Board.
Angela’s favorite soils are Gleysols, but she has yet to meet a soil profile she didn’t like.
