SOIL ŌTAUTAHI 2026 BUILDING RESILIENT FUTURES FOR SOILS CONNECTING SCIENCE, LAND, AND PEOPLE FOR RESILIENT SOILS

Chateau on the Park, Ōtautahi Christchurch
30th November –
3rd December 2026,
Ōtautahi Christchurch will host the NZSSS conference from 30 November – 3 December 2026, bringing together researchers, land managers, industry professionals, policy makers, and students from across Aotearoa.

The 2026 conference is expected to welcome a diverse range of delegates and provide a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange on the future of soil science and sustainable land management.

The theme for the 2026 conference is “Building Resilient Futures for Soils.” The programme will explore the critical role of healthy soils in supporting food production, water quality, climate resilience, ecosystem health, and thriving communities. Delegates will hear from leading experts and practitioners working to advance resilient productive landscapes and enduring ecosystems.

The conference will provide an excellent opportunity to gain insights into a wide range of topics including soil biodiversity, applied soil management, responses to extreme climate events, regenerative soil management, mātauranga Māori, soil science and policy, emerging technologies including GenAI and sensors, urban soil management, and the links between soils and human health.

Canterbury/Waitaha provides an ideal setting for these discussions, with its highly productive agricultural landscapes and internationally recognised research and innovation hubs.

There will also be opportunities for networking and relationship-building through social functions. The popular Soil Judging Competition will be held over the weekend prior to the conference, providing hands-on professional development and networking opportunities for both emerging and experienced soil practitioners.

Conference registration includes access to all conference sessions, the exhibition area, catering during conference breaks, and the Welcome Function.
