2026 Karl C. Ivarson Scholarship to Ms. Breanna Barrett
Breanna Barrett is an MSc student in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Saskatchewan. She has a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. Breanna’s MSc research focuses on understanding the soil factors that contribute to cropland marginality across the Canadian Prairies, examining the variability of key drivers of marginality, including salinity, sodicity, and compaction, within cropped fields. Her research aims to improve understanding of the factors contributing to cropland marginality and provide a foundation for future research on management strategies for marginal areas.
In addition to her research, Breanna has been involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students through the Department of Soil Science. Her interests include soil science, sustainable agriculture, and finding solutions that benefit farmers while protecting ecological function and the environment.
