2024 CSSS Early Career Professional Award to Guoqi Wen
Dr. Guoqi Wen is a research biologist at the Ottawa research and development centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. He holds dual PhD’s in Soil and Environmental Science from Université Laval and in Soil Science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on soil fertility, plant nutrition, AI applications in agriculture, and organic waste management. Dr. Wen developed a needle-shaped electrical sensor-based platform to monitor plant physiological and morphological responses to external stresses. He also designed an AI-based platform for converting food waste into biogas and biofertilizers.
Dr. Wen is an editor of the Journal of Crop Improvement and a peer reviewer for multiple journals. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and has actively presented at international conferences and workshops. He has received several awards, including the Graduate Thesis Award from the Canadian Society for Bioengineering.
